Adult adoptions often take place where termination of parental rights has not been possible during the adoptee's minority, upon termination of a minor's guardianship, or where an adult has formed a parent-child relationship with another person. In these cases the adult simply consents in court to their own adoption creating a legal relationship between the adoptee and the petitioner for adoption.
