Stepparent & Relative Adoptions

A stepparent may want to adopt the child of his or her spouse.  The parental rights of the non-custodial parent must be terminated by a voluntary judicial consent or under certain conditions involuntarily by the court.  No home study is required as the court will conduct its own investigation of the adoptive family.

A relative may adopt a child to whom they are related within the fifth degree by marriage, blood or adoption.  As with stepparent adoptions, no home study is required.
